Time Money for Global Harmony

Bob Blain

Purpose: To get all money in the world denominated in hours of work and percents of hours of work so that people on average are paid an hour of money for an hour of work. Deviations would always be negotiable by the people directly involved. Time money would promote the basic human right of a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work. It is a breakthrough similar to the adoption of the metric system because it would establish a single, certain, stable, and appropriate standard for wages and prices
worldwide instead of national moneys like now with no “known quantity” to define their value. Like gravity, equal work time is and has been at the center of currency exchange rates, though unrecognized, for as long as the International Monetary Fund has published the necessary data. Many local currencies, for example, Ithaca Hours, use work time as their base unit because work time makes sense. Time Money would advance the evolution of government, from political representative democracy to economic direct democracy. While human energy is the force that creates wealth, money is the medium that should circulate that wealth fairly and universally just like blood circulates and nourishes all parts of the human body. Key elements of strategy: 1) Educate people about Time Money: a. Distribute samples of Time Money. b. Send publications to and visit members of national governments, including the United Nations. c. Publish the “information chain” theory that led to time money. d. Conduct workshops with Cooperation, The Wealth of Nations Game, which teaches the strengths and weaknesses of various economic systems, and At the Controls of Spaceship Earth, which identifies actions that would improve living standards in countries of the world. 2) Network with other organizations including: a. The Provisional World Parliament, which adopted an hour of work as the world currency unit in 2004. b. The International Monetary Fund by tracking and periodically notifying them of currency exchange rate movements relative to equal work time. c. The American Monetary Institute. d. The Institute for Economic Democracy. e. Local currency groups.

Describe the critical need your solution addresses.

1) Created and maintain website http://hourmoney.org
2) Been a delegate at the Ninth and Tenth Sessions of the Provisional World Parliament.
3) Wrote to Directors of the IMF, delegates to the United Nations, and members of the U.S. Congress.
4) Distributed several thousand samples of Time Money.
5) Published the information chain theory in Weaving Golden Threads and revised it for a second edition.
6) Sold or donated 500+ copies of Cooperation: The Wealth of Nations Game and created At the Controls of Spaceship Earth as an Excel spreadsheet.
Over the next three years, my goal will be to get a country or currency union to adopt an hour of work as its unit. With that in mind, I will:
1) Design with Eugenia Almand and have printed Earth Federation Bonds for supporters of Earth Federation to hold until 25 countries have ratified the Constitution for the Federation of Earth;
2) Be a delegate to future Provisional World Parliament Sessions;
3) Publish the Time Money theory in a second edition of Weaving Golden Threads;
4) Continue distributing samples of Time Money;
5) Continue to monitor currency exchange rates and notifying IMF Directors and delegates to the UN of positive and negative movements;
6) Give seminars and workshops on Time Money;
7) Promote Cooperation: The Wealth of Nations Game, and develop a world version perhaps with Buckminster Fuller’s world map;
8) Copy and distribute DVD’s and Cds of past and new lectures on Time Money.
9) Update At the Controls of Spaceship Earth.
10) Donate $20,000 to the Institute on World Problems and $10,000 to the American Monetary Institute for a fund dedicated to promoting Time Money, $10,000 for printing Earth Federation Bonds, $10,000 to the Provisional World Parliament, $10,000 for publishing a second edition of Weaving Golden Threads, $10,000 for producing DVDs and communicating with persons and governments, $10,000 for producing the world version of Cooperation: The Wealth of nations Game and updating At the Controls of Spaceship Earth, with $20,000 left uncommitted.

Explain your initiative in more depth and its stage of development.

Comprehensive – money is essential to economic livelihood and human rights worldwide.
Anticipatory –. The present “credit market” crisis is a consequence of money numbers dispersing astronomically. We must bring money numbers back into line with economic realities. Time money will guide the way.
Ecologically responsible – Money represents price, not value, so Gross Domestic Product should be reduced, not grown, except where there are unmet human needs and then grown only temporarily until those needs are met.
Feasible - Time money requires only that the printing plates for money be changed.
Verifiable – Evidence that equal work time is the center of gravity of currency exchange rates is available from the country pages of the IMF monthly journal, International Financial Statistics. Life expectancy can be used to monitor improvement where Time Money is used.
Replicable –Time is worldwide, based on the rotation and orbit of Spaceship Earth. Any and all countries can convert their currencies to Time Money at the par value of GDP per hour of work.
