American Ingenuity Dome Communities and Factories

Michael and Glenda Busick

Residential Houses consume around 20% of the energy produced in America because of their inefficient R value and box houses can be blown down by hurricanes and tornadoes or broken apart by earthquakes. Michael Busick invented a component panel that is used to build the latest in technology geodesic dome homes and developed a building system that produces a super energy efficient house that comes with a hurricane, earthquake, tornado guarantee. Housing communities can be built this way. We are developing
a 160 acre dome community in North Carolina right now that will be a prototype community for the USA and the world. Our domes are from 373 sq.ft to over 5,000 sq.ft. and can be assembled by do-it-yourselfers or local contractors. These domes can help hurricane ravaged areas, poverty stricken areas or the middle class to have "Green Homes" that consume less energy to heat and cool and are guaranteed against severe acts of nature. The center of our panel is a 7 inch block of EPS insulation, on the interior side of the EPS is wall board and on the exterior side is steel reinforced concrete. When the panels are assembled, the insulation, interior wall board and structure are put in place....only the seams between the panels are concreted on site along with the entryways and dormers for reduced on site labor. The interior finishing is done by local subcontractors....plumbers, electricians, framers, etc. There is no wood in or on the shell to be eaten by termites, or to rot or to burn. There are no shingles to blow off or to burn. The exterior concrete is painted with latex paint. Our building kit is typically one half less in cost than the materials cost to build the shell of a box house plus our clients get more…greater energy efficiency and greater strength. Our dome building kit is special and unique, no other dome building kit is manufactured or built this way.

Describe the critical need your solution addresses.

We have manufactured our kits this way since the middle 80's in our Rockledge Florida factory but the USA and the world does not know about this fantastic housing alternative. Our Florida factory needs to be expanded and another factory set up in the midwest so that our clients have reduced shipping costs. Domes need to be built within our North Carolina dome community so that humanity can see how dome living can be in subdivisions and communities like conventional box houses. Many of these dome factories could be set up in the USA and the world to provide "Green" jobs. Crews of workers could be trained to go around the USA and the world assembling the domes and training contractors to sell and build the domes.

Explain your initiative in more depth and its stage of development.

Our dome housing kit solves many problems for humanity from reducing home heating and cooling costs, simplifying home building techniques, reducing homeowners fears of hurricanes, earthquakes and tornadoes destroying their homes, providing "Green" Construction and Manufacturing Jobs, to saving our trees (there is no wood in or on the dome shell...a temporary wooden rib system is used during the assembly; but it is removed once all the panels are in place and the panel seams and entryways are concreted).

How does your strategy and approach respond creatively and comprehensively to key issues?

American Ingenuity has been in business over 25 years. Michael and I have developed this successful, reputable business from manufacturing and selling one dome a year to 40 to 70 a year. We know how to train a factory staff and a construction crew. We own the 160 acres in North Carolina where we are developing our first dome community which can be a prototype community to exemplify a new type of community living that can be replicated through out the USA and the world.
