The Solar Space Port Inititative
The strategy can be seen as the equivalent to an “Apollo” project for renewable energy much like Al Gore has talked about recently. It could even be the leading project for his call for a “Moon Shot Project” to solve global climate change. The Solar Space Port Initiative would focus resources on locations that have long-standing practical experience using hydrogen as a fuel source and energy storage medium. The project would have the goal of making the first site, the Kennedy Space Center’s
Describe the critical need your solution addresses.
I intend to create a non-profit environmental education organization to move the project forward through presentation to key industry and government organizations as well as the general public. As a non-profit, I can easily include the project with the slideshow developed by The Climate Project for which I have been trained and authorized.
The first step is incorporation. I have scheduled a meeting with an organization that assists non-profits obtain the tax status of a 501c3. The next is securing a domain name and developing a web presence. That is well within my realm of expertise since I own a small leading-edge web design studio – ONE WORLD BAR.com.
Within the coming year, I intend to deliver a presentation to Al Gore and the staff of The Climate Project (http://www.theclimateproject.org/).
Explain your initiative in more depth and its stage of development.
• It’s Comprehensive — The design process started by taking inventory of the detected contents of the universe, the possible lifespan of the Sun, and that the boundaries for human beings in this solar system is limited by the material available to build solar power satellites and habitats in orbit around the Sun.
• It’s Anticipatory — I’m assuming that the climate change crisis is solved as a byproduct of the progress made toward goal of the project – to have all space transportation as well as air transportation powered by renewable sources.
• It’s Ecologically Responsible — The project is for advancing the state-of-the-art of all modes of transportation and energy use that is involved with launching vehicles into space.
• It’s Feasible — The design relies entirely on current technology and existing resources.
• It’s Verifiable — a computer model needs to be developed.
• It’s Replicable — built-in technology transfer component.
How does your strategy and approach respond creatively and comprehensively to key issues?
On December 14th 1976, I received the first of two recommendations from Buckminster Fuller as well as a recommendation from Medard Gabel (1983) for originating a theory about technologically-advanced extraterrestrial civilizations and developing the theory into this project.
That theory is that in order to become a space-faring species, any advanced civilization must build a space vehicle launch facility on the surface of their planet that would use the energy from their local star. In the case of human beings on this planet, we would need to build a solar (or any renewable) energy collection facility that would convert sunlight into electricity to electrolyze, liquefy and store adequate amounts of hydrogen from ocean water for the indefinite operation of a space vehicle launch site.
